Officers that are pump-action qualified already posses the fundamental, mechanical skills of a standard, 12 gauge shotguns. Therefore, most agencies are choosing to convert the existing patrol shotgun to less-lethal only by retrofitting them with high visibility stocks and certifying every officer with less-lethal impact projectiles. However, in case you haven’t noticed, every other impact munitions course available is SWAT and/or TACTICAL oriented and focuses chiefly on the use of 37 and/or 40 mm weapons systems.
PATROL OFFICER IMPACT MUNITIONS™
As first responders, patrol officers very often have the opportunity to quickly counteract, defuse, or even totally neutralize combative or aggressive subject(s) before the situation escalates to a much more serious set of circumstances, provided however, that he/she has the tools and training to accomplish operational success at the crisis site.
This training will expand your understanding of specialty impact munitions (SIM) and technology currently available for use by patrol officers. Every effort is made to simulate real-life stress and circumstances by providing hands-on, interactive and scenario-based, realistic training to better prepare the student while establishing a clear and consistent knowledge of the impact projectiles capabilities and limitations.
It has been suggested that having “lots of tools” in the toolbox is the best way to increase the likelihood of operational success. However, experience has shown that with impact projectiles, the opposite is true. Simplicity is the key. Agencies should procure the least variety of impact projectiles required to accomplish perceived objectives and place a high priority on proper training and frequent practice.
This course will be available in 2007. Please visit the CALENDAR section of this website for locations and date information. |
